Should you reset a computer remotely or in person?

Discover our all-in-one solution

And don't wait any longer to simplify the management of your computer equipment.

Do you regularly have new members on your team?

As well as people who are leaving your company, to go on new professional adventures?

If this is the case, you certainly have to reset the machines in your computer park. 💻

Two main methods are then available to you:

  • the intervention on site, on your premises, of an IT expert,
  • remote reset support, via specialized remote control software, such as Zoho.

We'll look at the pros and cons of these two options, but first, let's look at why you should reset your computers before offering them to new users!

Why reset your computers?

Why not simply give an existing computer, as it is, to your new employee?

There are three key benefits to consider when rebooting a computer!

Ensuring data security and protection

Reset a PC or Mac, it is first of all the guarantee that the data found there will not be consulted and used by its new user.

To take an example, you probably don't want the old computer of your CFO, who decided to change machines, to end up in the hands of the intern who has just arrived!

At least, not without first cleaning the machine and deleting all sensitive and confidential data.

Many employees also store personal data on their hard drives. La Resetting protects the confidentiality of this data also! 🔐

Have a stock of computers ready to be used

Does your business hire a lot of people?

You then have regular onboardings to manage.

And to save everyone time, the ideal is to have a stock of machines already reset and updated. They can be made available to their new user very quickly.

The time savings can then be significant when someone arrives on your team. Your new employees will be able to start working as soon as they arrive, rather than having to wait for a machine to be prepared!

Maximize computer performance

Finally, cleaning a machine also guarantees that its new user will benefit from it. Best of its performances.

Your former employee may have forgotten to clean his office, or may have installed a lot of software that consumes resources...

In this case, a reset carried out by an expert will have the added value of greatly optimizing the performance of the computer, and allowing your employee to be productive and motivated.

It is well known that no one likes to work on a computer that “lags”!

Resetting remotely or in person: analysis of the pros and cons

Abdelkrim, iT manager at Rzilient, recently visited the premises of one of our customers in Paris, in order to resetting PCs.

The objective of the intervention was to reset 5 machines, following departures and arrivals in the customer's team.

“We could have carried out a remote intervention, using Zoho Assist. However, in this specific case, we thought it was best to go there.” says Abdelkrim

Why do these resets happen on site, rather than remotely?

In the case of a long intervention, involving several machines, the use of remote control software is, in our opinion, not ideal.

Indeed, this blocks a person on your team for several hours, interacting with our IT expert. During this time, your employee is therefore not productive! He is stuck in front of his computer, on Zoho Assist and cannot move forward with his work.

The physical presence of our expert therefore frees up time for your team.

But that's not all, it also allows us to take advantage of our presence on site to advise your team and to get to know each other. This is nice on the one hand, but also very useful for the smooth running of our subsequent remote interventions!

Remote reset is suitable when it only concerns one machine (the intervention will then be quick) or for operations such as solving a lost password problem or an Office installation to be finalized.
